This craft event was launched in 2009 and it’s for the 8th time this year. It’s gained high reputation due to the quality exhibitors and the highly conscious operators, and it’s grown into a nationwide big draw. It’s held in Daisen Park in Sakai City, Osaka. Historically Sakai, known as a place for knife production, had a deep connection with “Chanoyu” or tea ceremony which had been growing kinds of domestic crafts. Creators and users from all around Japan get together here in Sakai.

Beyond the craft boom

“Our motivation hasn’t changed from the start.” said Mr. Tsuyoshi Tsujino, the chairman of the executive committee. He, who had said he didn’t want the craft a transient boom, said after the event in 2015 as follows.

How do you think about this boom? We’ve been holding this event aiming for “letting the work of everyday life tool, which is a real excellent craft, permeated among people.” While we’ve been having reservations about the situation that hand made goods are simply flooded in the market. Many people have got involved in the craft now. But we realized what we’ve been afraid of was not so bad. To have the event in the public place like a park was in expectation of chance encounter of artists and users. We think introducing the real excellent things should lead to help developing eyes for the real deal, the next generation for the craft and the affluent life environment. We favorably see this phenomenon happening in front of us now as people’s choice diversified and matured, and people having a fun of it. Excerpt from「-Referring to the afterword for the 7th event

To develop good judges. Actually some bought dishes for eight straight years at this event. Crafts fit into our lives as if they were air and craft fair is common like department stores and online stores as a choice. I hope a place of craft production will be one of our choices of trip destination eventually.
